The project was developed with the concept of integration and preservation of Baghdad's culture. The total integration of spaces was defined as the premise of the project, all proposed environments, whether they are internal or external environments are integrated. This integration proposal was obtained through external public circulation and visual permeability in the proposed fences. Through this design strategy, the user has the total perception of the construction of any environment. The project allows intuitive perception to the user, avoiding doubts and questions when it comes to their spatial organization. The intuitive perception was one of the alternatives chosen with the purpose of guaranteeing to the user the spatial recognition and then, the feeling of belonging of the place.
The project was careful to keep the identity of the site alive through constructive features of the region and the use of materials used with frequencies in the local architecture. Externally, the local memory was maintained in its entirety, maintaining the existing facades and the average gauge of the surrounding buildings, thus avoiding to damage the existing urban morphology. Already, internally, the project presents itself with contemporary characteristics referring to the local memory, through the proposition of external circulation and the rich textures of the historic buildings of Baghdad. Thus, the local culture is transmitted smoothly to contemporary architecture.
The concept of transmitting to the user the integration and belonging to the building, keeps alive the strong integration characteristic between open spaces, such as the cafeteria with the central square, as well as the exhibition area on the ground floor.
In the upper floor, the culture of the local architecture is referred by the presence of the external catwalk, where the environments of the library and cowork are integrated to the central square by the complete visual permeability. The user in the cafeteria has the view of both the exhibition area and the library, located on the upper deck. On the other hand, a user in the library environment has a coworker and cafeteria view.
